The 2025 NFL free agency period has seen several notable moves, with teams bolstering their rosters for the upcoming season. Here’s an overview of some key signings and their potential impact:
Milton Williams to the New England Patriots
The Patriots secured defensive tackle Milton Williams with a four-year, $104 million contract, making him the highest-paid player in franchise history by average annual value. Williams, 26, was a standout performer in the previous season, notably excelling in the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl. His addition aims to strengthen New England’s defensive line and contribute to a new team culture under head coach Mike Vrabel. Milton was the sleeper pickup of FA that I thought, and was wondering if the Packers were going to try to pick him up, but alas, this is a huge amount of money for a team that can’t do that.
Zack Baun’s Contract Extension with the Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles re-signed linebacker Zack Baun to a three-year, $51 million contract, with $34 million guaranteed. Baun’s versatility was instrumental in Philadelphia’s defensive success, as he played multiple roles, including defensive lineman and slot defender. His performance earned him recognition as one of the top defensive players, nearly securing the Defensive Player of the Year award. HE’S SO GOOD GOD DAMNIT.
Aaron Banks’ Signing with the Green Bay Packers
The Packers addressed their offensive line needs by signing guard Aaron Banks to a four-year, $77 million deal. Banks, formerly with the San Francisco 49ers, is considered a solid player, though some analysts feel the contract may be slightly above market value. His addition is expected to provide stability and experience to Green Bay’s offensive front. Interesting pickup because he is 325 and 6’5”. Luckily he can move but I’m a little nervous about this signing for the Packers. He might be a solid role player, or at least starting caliber.
I think some other notable signings is:
Carlton Davis to the New England Patriots: The Patriots bolstered their secondary by signing cornerback Carlton Davis to a three-year, $60 million contract. Davis’ experience and playmaking ability are anticipated to enhance New England’s defense. Carlton Davis has always done a great job and I’ll never dislike this pickup unless he plays like JC Jackson did for the Pats a while back.
Javon Hargrave’s Move to the Minnesota Vikings: The Vikings strengthened their defensive line by signing defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a two-year, $30 million deal. Hargrave’s presence is expected to disrupt opposing offenses and bolster Minnesota’s pass rush. Minnesota is loading up to do a very good job of being a complete defense and having a good o line for a healthy JJ McCarthy. Sad to say though, cause man, I hate the Vikings.
Levi Onwuzurike’s Re-signing with the Detroit Lions: The Lions secured defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike with a one-year, $5.5 million contract. Onwuzurike’s consistency and performance are valued assets to Detroit’s defensive front. Especially with the lack of defensive line play. We shall see with the NFL draft if they add anyone.
These strategic moves reflect teams’ efforts to address specific needs and enhance their rosters ahead of the 2025 season.
