On Friday, November 1, the Beloit Art Center hosted its November First Friday Gallery Reception, with a gallery talk starting at 6 p.m. The Wisconsin Visual Artists of the South Central Chapter are displayed in the Sveum Gallery, while Connie Gardiner’s works are displayed in the Bell Gallery.

The Wisconsin Visual Artists are a group dedicated to helping artists of varying experience so that no matter the caliber of art, they can still hang up their art on a professional gallery wall. Each artist on display has up to two pieces to sell or share.

With a wide range of skills and diverse groups of artists, the art pieces on display are created with very different mediums and styles. Some pieces utilize watercolors, oils, resin, sculptures, collages, photography, and more.

Mary Tilton, the Chair of the South Central division of Wisconsin Visual Artists, spoke for the group of artists. She describes her process and displaying of her art as “an incredibly personal contribution…when you are doing your best art, you are doing it with your heart,” to which many of the artists in attendance agreed.

Connie Gardiner, a nurse and self-taught artist on display in the Bell Gallery, is proud to display her art for the second time at the Beloit Art Center. This particular collection of works features human beings in contemplation during the private moments of their day.

Many of Gardiner’s works are donated to her patients to bring life and color to their rooms. She continues advocating, in her own life and work, that “there is more to their lives than just sitting and watching TV.”

Artists for this month will be displayed until Thursday, November 28. A full calendar of events, classes, and gallery hours can be found at beloitartcenter.com.
