What’s The Big Idea?!

Welcome friends, one and all, to a new segment called “What’s The Big Idea?”! Being someone who does not understand or know why there is homecoming in college, I decided to reach out to the world to get other people to solve my problems for me. To do this, I talked to pretty much anyone I came across in the span of Friday evening and Saturday morning (29th and 30th of September) and asked them all the same question: What’s the big idea? I recorded their answers, and I am elated to share with you the multitude of responses I accumulated from people on homecoming weekend, here at Beloit College. Since I did not explicitly ask for their consent to have their names shared, I will keep their identities anonymous. I will say that one of them was me, but I’ll never tell which 😉

“Oooh…people. Homecoming. People are coming home! Ya know? Beloit College is their home, and they are coming home on homecoming weekend.” -an insightful interpretation of the meaning of “Homecoming”.

“ *cricket sounds* *whines, cries* I dunno… I’m just a kid, I dunno!” -an adult woman

“Join the Round Table!” -do it, goofball

“Scotty B was in the turtle costume.” -men love him, scientists hate him: #scottyb4life

“Big idea of what? The art place? The exhibit? The whole weekend? Okay. Yippee! Homecoming. Homecoming weekend. It’s a time for alumni, friends, and family to come together and enjoy the community that is Beloit College.” -an intrepid artiste

“The theme of this exhibition is turmoil and tranquility. You can see some of the art represents the turmoil in the world, and other parts represent the peace and tranquility.” -a description of Gallery ABBA’s open house theme! Come to the next event, the art is so worth it 🙂

“I really like sheep.” -that’s not baad (I’ll see myself out)

“ *sighs* Turtles all the way down, I guess. There sure are lots of ‘em.” -school pride amirite.

“I got even BIGGER ideas. Just wait.” -too big, head explode! Uh oh, lawsuit.

“ *dramatic pause* We should bring back folk dancing. Yea.” -a riveting sentiment.

“AAAAAAA” -same, dude. same.

“ *approaches microphone incredibly closely* politics.” -SLOW YOUR ROLL BUSTER 

“IIII like raacooonnsss” -I keep seeing one by neese I need to memorize it’s routines and give it a surprise cake…

“It’s all the idea.” -guys, I never cry, but this…

“Well, the big idea is our daughter goes to Beloit, and we are wanting to support her in her homecoming weekend, so her mom and I came down and are checking out the power house, checking out the campus, checking out downtown, and enjoying every minute of it.” -a supportive parent. Pleasure to meet you, parent.

“The big idea? The. Big. Idea. Would be that…Beloit College will change the future of America.” -ambitious. I like it.

“Help me, oh god, oh god my arm, oh god, please, help me, oh god.” -Calm down, it’s still attached. We’ll get you some more blood, just chillax bro.

That was the big idea! At least, I think it was. I actually know nothing, and never will, but you have the ability of autonomy! So enjoy it, and form opinions. We wanna hear them. Maybe even… submit some to our instagram form? For the hot takes?? Do it???????
