There’s construction all over campus, and I’m sure we’ve all fallen into one of the holes by this point. What exactly is going on at each of these sites, though? I interviewed two different construction teams working on campus to get an answer.
One of the big construction projects is taking place in and around Pearsons Hall on the academic side of campus. The inside of the building has been renovated and DK’s has been reopened. Additionally, construction is happening on the outside of the building. The stairs on the right-hand side of the building have been removed, and a crew is currently working on installing an ADA-accessible ramp in its place. As of October 3, rebar was put in the ground to support the new ramp. The crew member I talked to said that concrete projects of this sort take around two weeks to complete, however, another crew is coming in after to add railings to the ramp.
Another crew I talked with was working at the intersection of Clary and Church Street. This group consisted of watermen from the city, who have been connecting the new areas of the water main to the old ones. They were also responsible for the previous project further up Church St., near the library. However, I was informed that this week construction will begin to rebuild the road. This should bring an end to the water outages we’ve been experiencing across campus.
Overall, the construction seems to be coming to an end. The pit outside Morse-Ingersoll hall has been refilled with dirt, as has the hole on Emerson and Church St. The library has been moving more furniture into the basement, and while it’s not done yet, progress is being made.
