For the last Saturday of October, C-Haus threw a brat-themed EDM concert, DJ-ed by Mason Sorensen’25.
This event was by far one of the best events that C-Haus has ever hosted. The house was alive, and people seemed to really enjoy the music that Sorensen was playing. The music was also really good, adding to the vibe of the night. The setlist included songs from a variety of artists, including Charli xcx, Skrillex, Knock2, ISOxo and more.
This event took a lot of planning, but it wasn’t even supposed to be a brat party. Originally, it was going to be a rave party, but C-Haus didn’t like it due to the negative connotations of raves (which Sorensen thinks is just drugs). Sorensen said that it was his girlfriend that helped him pick the theme. “I decided to change it because my girlfriend suggested that people would like “brat” because people really like it and lots of people would show up.”
Before the show, I sat down with him to talk with him about what motivated him to host this event.
What got you into DJ-ing?
“I always wanted to get into music and production, and I really started taking music production seriously at the beginning of the year. I was really inspired by dubstep, very heavy electronic music. I saw ISOxo and Knock2, and those dudes are huge inspirations, both style wise and music wise. I saw them DJ-ing and it seemed super dope and I wanted to get into it.”
What’s your DJ-ing experience?
“This is my first time performing. I’ve never performed because performance is kind of scary. I liked producing, and so I figured I could just DJ and perform. It’ll be fun and a good challenge.”
Is your style similar to any other artist you’ve listened to?
“I’m not really an amazing producer right now, but I’ve been trying to imitate the style of ISOxo and Knock2 with bass house and the way that EDM trap is going.”
There’s no doubt that this event was a success, and C-Haus will most likely be seeing more of Sorensen in the future. But until then, we’re stuck with the DJs at frat parties.
