Bucs Football Keeps Fighting But Coming Up Short

Losses to Monmouth College and Lake Forest College leave the Bucs still hunting for a second win of the season.

On October 26, Monmouth dominated the Buccaneers 3-55, only managing to score a field goal and once again failing to convert on offense. Many plays resulted in forced punts due to a lack of yardage.

On November 2, Beloit faced Lake Forest. Before the game, Beloit College honored the many seniors on the team. It was a touching event. The seniors started on the end of the field and walked through a tunnel of their peers as they were cheered on. Once they were out of the tunnel, they stood along the field, and a photo was taken once everybody had finished walking.

Once the seniors had been celebrated, the game against Lake Forest began. Beloit’s defense stumbled out of the gates in the first quarter, because the Foresters scored three minutes into the game. After a quick start, the Bucs got the chance to even the odds with their first possession. This hope was short-lived, as Beloit’s first drive was cut short by a Lake Forest interception.

The defense started to regain their footing toward the end of the first quarter, blocking and recovering a Lake Forest punt. Shortly after, in the second quarter, Beloit scored a touchdown. Lake Forest would respond to this with two more touchdowns, to end the first half 27-7. All throughout the first half, Beloit was plagued by delay of game penalties, forcing them to use timeouts in inopportune spots.

In the third quarter, Lake Forest scored three more touchdowns. In the fourth quarter, Beloit scored a field goal and a 54-yard return. This sudden burst of offense was sadly not enough, ending in a 62-17 defeat for the Bucs in their last home game of the 2024 season.

The Bucs play their next two games on the road against two more Midwest Conference opponents: Illinois College and Ripon College. Can they pull off the upset, or will it end the way it always does – a failure to convert in the red zone?
