This is my last issue as the News Editor for The Round Table. As I prepare to transfer out of Beloit College, I am both excited for a new journey and struggling to find words for an adequate goodbye. Being a member of the campus community and The Round Table has been an exceptionally rewarding experience that I will never regret. In between limestone walls, burnt coffee, and panicked Powerhouse power- writing sprees, I found a home.
I learned a lot while at Beloit: mainly, that there is a lot of extra hidden behind the ordinary if you just know to look. The unassuming small town I wandered into last fall became one of the most exciting spots in the world. The incredible, strong, determined, generous individuals I met in Beloit have made a tremendous impact on my life and my character. Particularly, the mentorship of the late Dr. Ian Nie has been the most lucky and transformative experience of my life. His spirit and legacy will inspire me and all his students far beyond our time in academia- he was the definition of a Beloiter.
To leave what‘s become a home is by no means easy. While I pack up my string lights and wave goodbye, I grieve the expectations I had and all the moments I planned for. Yet, I know that I‘ll be a Beloiter forever.
I am so excited to see what Beloit College will turn into. The work of The Round Table staff this semester has, and continues to be, exceptional. Newly hired professors such as Mats Rudels are bringing fresh life and perspectives to the campus. Beloit College, for all its wackiness, is a College that changes lives.
Au Revoir, Beloit. And thank you.
