Love the Paper Ever Since We Killed It

When we were just small baby freshmen, we joined a club out of the urge to feel involved and fill the social void left in our hearts. The Round Table had eight members and fonts that did not match each other. Every issue was sporadic, and every staff member had to panic write articles in the office in order to fill her pages. The paper had the reputation of a friend group’s club that nobody liked, except for the back and parody issues. 

Do we regret the coup we threw against the editors that year? Maybe a little bit. It did kill the paper. And the website, until this year. But such is life. We rebuild.

Since then, the Round Table has gotten new fonts, more members, increased engagement, a website, a radio show, actual journalism (now and then), and a tight-knit staff that we would die for. We would not be where we are now without the support and trust we have from all our editors and writers. Throughout the past year, we have sought to better the paper with better editing, stronger writing, and a committed staff. 

We’d like to extend a special thank you to a handful of individuals who made this paper sing. Brendan Chambers and Logan Eischeid, thank you for guiding us through that first year of rebuilding. 

Angi Olesen, thank you for sticking up for us when people started getting mad that we were doing actual journalism. 

To the big three, Ella, Cam, and Flora, thank you for expanding our social reach and making things more fun. 

To Brian Morello, thank you for guiding us through financial restructuring. 

To all of the freshmen and sophomores who showed up in droves, your eagerness to participate in campus life was a breath of fresh air after all the lazing about of us juniors and seniors. 

To our staff writers, we would not have a paper without you. Thank you for begrudgingly saying “Yes” when you got an article assigned to you.

To our editors, thank you for the hours of work you have put in each and every week. It’s a largely thankless job, and we appreciate your commitment. 

To Cian McKeown, for spearheading a new branch of Round Table operations through your relentless commitment to a truly hilarious radio show, thank you for your unsung effort. You are a very funny guy.

To Vivian Kopka and Ella Silva, thank you in advance for the strong work you will undoubtedly do next year as editors-in-chief. It has been a pleasure working with you and watching you grow.

The paper is in good hands. In a twisted sense, we will miss the panicked Sundays, the relentless administrative meetings, the hours of stupid chores that could for sure be automated but we are too lazy to figure out how… we will miss this paper. We will miss you.
