On April 23 at 4:20 p.m., Peet Fest will return. The annual student-run event held on Chapin Quad was coordinated by Svea Jones‘25 and Ezekiel Kingsbury‘25 with support from the WBCR crew. It will serve as a kick-off to the beginning of summer and end of school year.
Peet Fest initially began as a student-run gathering, which became more and more successful over time. Eventually, it was co-opted by the college, but in 2023, the event was not hosted. The following year, members of the Round Table and WBCR worked together to bring the festival back. In 2024, Peet Fest hosted a variety of student vendors and musicians, but last minute planning, stress over raising money and less than optimal weather held the event back from reaching its full potential.
This year, with sun on the forecast, Peet Fest is set to be bigger and better than ever. The gazebo will host eight student performances and student vendors will be present on the quad. Other activities will include t-shirt making, water fights, lawn games and a grilling challenge between TKE and Phi Psi.
For Kingsbury, sufficient advertising of the event was a priority. “I feel like a lot of these college events aren’t advertised well enough, so nobody comes to them,” he says. “Also, they’re not really supporting the student run events. So, we decided to take matters into our own hands.”
He urges students to attend, saying, “A bunch of people are going to be there… It helps push against the cliquey tendency of Beloit. I would say it’s your last chance to really have fun as a Beloiter before the end of the semester.”
However, a word of caution — if you’re going in hopes that Congressman Bryan Steil will be in attendance, you will be sorely disappointed. He cruelly rejected his invitation without a hint of remorse.
