The Beloit College Folk and Blues festival is a yearly tradition at our college. This year’s event held on the Chapin quad began at 5PM. The event hosted an array of Alumni, staff, and students with the name of it being “Folk N Blues” homegrown edition showing us that it was our own who dominated the stage and with great power too. The first set was DJ Masooni at 5:00 whose mix of rap, pop, and EDM proved to be a successful opener as many students were dancing and moving to the catchy beats. Tae Laurent joined in at 6:00 with inspiration flowing throughout his set helping build bigger crowds amongst the quad. The third and definitely most famous and enjoyed set was Mr. Pink at 7:00 fronted by Beloit college’s own, Ron Watson. Him and his band showed us some classic hits with my personal favorite song they performed, a cover of Bob Marley and the Wailers “could you be loved” and also played some more recent fun pop hits like Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club and Levitating by Dua Lipa. The final set of the night at 8:00 was DJ Much and Kwas whose music used Afrobeat revival. Overall, the event was great and a lot of fun for new students and returning ones. The setup before was nice with bean bag tossing/cornhole and a boba station. As a first year student, this event was a lot of fun to meet new people and catch up with good friends. Overall, I highly recommend events like this and I will definitely be in attendance next year!
