Unstoppable Chiefs?

The reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs added a new star this season- well after the NFL draft and free agency period. Rumors started swirling in early September of a power couple emerging with tight end Travis Kelce and singer Taylor Swift. The rumors were proven true as more and more evidence surfaced over time.

It is hard to believe that the team with the best quarterback and tight end in the NFL is adding a 12 time Grammy award winning singer. While she doesn’t bring much value on the field, her image has been heavily marketed by the Chiefs and the NFL. She has led an army of “Swifties” to start following football and root for the Kansas City Chiefs. 

So who is going to stop this juggernaut? During their six game win streak, it looked like nobody. But a recent ugly loss to the Denver Broncos has raised some questions. Did Travis and Taylor get into a fight? Are Jackson and Brittany Mahomes jealous of sharing the spotlight with someone way more accomplished than either of them combined? How are all of these huge personalities going to work well together?

Whether you love or hate this team, there’s no avoiding them. It seems like every commercial in between games is Taylor Swift advertising her Eras Tour, or Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid eating cheeseburgers with Jake from State Farm. And don’t even get me started with Travis Kelce. He is turning into Shaq doing excessive amounts of commercials. Kelce was even recently called out by New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers for doing a commercial for the pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

This superteam is very much unprecedented in the football world. The only accurate comparison I can think of is in basketball when superstar Kevin Durant signed with the Golden State Warriors after they broke the record for best regular season record at 73-9. What did that team do the next two years? They won back to back NBA titles.

So it looks like the Kansas City Chiefs will be the 2023-2024 Super Bowl Champions. It would be such a shame if the love story that is Kelce and Swift went out of style and Travis Kelce isn’t the one for Taylor. But if there is bad blood within and the Chiefs can’t shake it off, there will be a blank space next to both Taylor Swift’s name and the winner of this year’s Super Bowl.
