It’s February 14. Valentine’s Day. You’ve just had an everything shower, you’ve done your skincare, your homework is done, sort of. Your good pal, Charlie, is plugging in his Pioneer DDJ 400 and once again donning those crusty old white headphones. All in service of an extra special Valentine’s Day radio show. It’s 8:58 p.m. You tune in to wbcr903.com (you don’t own a radio).

Holy shart, Charlie. What a banging beginning. Charlie immediately goes into a dreamy, funktastic disco mix that places you in a combination roller rink/arcade on a date with an absolute HOTTIE (and oh boy! There’s a lot of tension in the air). A song that really just makes you feel like you don’t care about burning a hole in the ozone layer from using an entire can of hairspray. If I could do a backflip, I’d be doing thirty right now.
Oh, HELLO VALENTINE’S DAY SWITCH UP. It’s groovy now. It’s too goddamn groovy, Charlie. Love is taking over, indeed. This mix, specially curated for Valentine’s Day, is making me go crazy.
Charlie deftly changes it up, moving into a more early 2000s R&B sound for all the lovers out there. Then, a CRAZY guitar solo moves the music into an “almost Steely Dan-esque direction,” says Cam Stenberg’24. “A bluesy-rock.” God, I wish I could be in the club right now.
There’s a new beat. It has a certain whimsy and sense of curiosity. Curious George would fuck with this heavy, in the best way possible (the Man in the Yellow Hat would HATE this beat!).
A new sound, 80’s to the max. Totally new-wave.
A dreamier mix, this one. Carry me away into that sweet heavenly beat.
Loud rock. “Charlie, this is getting out of hand. I don’t want to make love to this,” said Stenberg.
Charlie answered our prayers and changed the beat, giving us a song that wouldn’t be out of place in a Hallmark rom-com. If you’ve ever been in the club and wished for an hour of 80s pop mixed with 2000s R&B, boy oh boy, you would’ve LOVED this radio show.
The stream has ended, the magic fading off into the silence. “That was for all the lovers out there, or all the likers. What’s up?”
“I love the likers,” said Ezekiel Kingsbury’25. “They’re my favorite basketball team.”
Afterwards, Charlie was asked to describe “I find mfs like you really interesting bro. I ain’t gonna lie this sh*t is kinda like a personal thing to me, you get what I’m saying? It’s just like a personal vibe you feel me? What’s really crazy though is that you wouldn’t have even fallen in love on the 14th if you hadn’t heard me hit that. I don’t even think you really down like that to be honest bro. So go ahead find yourself something to listen to bro go listen to your spotify bro this sh*t ain’t spotify this the WBCR sh*t you get what I’m saying? This sh*t sound insane though like completely iced out and freezing. Like wild raw ice you know what i’m saying? This stuff makes you smile you feel me sh*t I really wish I could put you on but it’s really a personal vibe like this is the sh*t I listen to with my friends and family. Trust.”
