A Poem by Siona Shishak

By

Siona Shishak

The world searched for some way to let the light in

But the clouds refused

And the treetops robbed all below

A shallow glow crept its way in

Between the pockets of the leaves

But soil and rock smothered the floor

Some secondary measure of defense

Sky and Earth in fated confederation

And somewhere, perfectly congenial

Sits some small beast that knows nothing of the sunshine

Who won’t ever seek it out

Not for an absence of action, but for lack of direction

But I will be she who climbed the towering trunks

And I will be she who far flew above the sheet of white

Finding one final golden lining

One glimpse at the day long departed
