Julia Fox is a pop culture and fashion icon known for her stunning looks and her role in the movie “Uncut Gems” (2019). She was also in the spotlight due to her relationship with Kanye West in 2022.

Her new book, “Down the Drain,” however, shows her life in a completely different way from what was previously showcased.
“Down the Drain” documents her whole life, starting when Fox was a small kid moving from Italy where she lived with her grandpa and mother, to live in New York City with her dad. Much of the early book is focused on her Italian heritage, where she goes back to visit and live there periodically. Her relationship with the city of New York is also unique as she was a bit of a minor celebrity there before she became the national figure she is today.
Another main theme throughout the book is her experiences with different forms of addiction. These experiences were heartwrenching to read but felt necessary to who she was and what she’s gone through. As a society, we often demonize drug addicts and this book fights against that narrative. It’s not necessarily on purpose, but just showing the realities of addiction through such a raw and human lens is good to see . Additionally, Julia’s story shows that addicts can recover and go on to live amazing lives, which is such an encouraging thing to see from a woman I look up to.
While her stories are wholly unique, I can’t help but see some of myself and my friends through her. Some of her anxious behaviors and habits are all too relatable and some of her struggles are unfortunately very common.
This book is a must-read and I will continue recommending it to anyone who will listen. Julia Fox, you have a special place in my heart.
