On Tuesday, April 2, Rock County held its Spring election. Aside from the presidential primary, there were judicial, county, municipal, and school board elections, and a handful of referendums.
In Rock County, Donald Trump won the Republican primary with a nearly 78% majority within the party. Nikki Haley trailed behind Trump with nearly 13% of voters.
Biden won the Democratic primary, taking over 90% of the votes. Almost 6% of Democratic voters voted for “Uninstructed Delegation.” This was an option for those in opposition to the president’s response to the genocide in Gaza.
The Referendum for the School District of Beloit did not pass. It lost by 958 votes. This referendum asked to exceed the district’s revenue limit by $9 million yearly for three years. Superintendent Dr. Wille E. Garrison II, who was in support of the referendum, expressed resilience, “The energy it takes to pull us apart is great, which means our community of supporters has to come together even more.
The State of Wisconsin Referendum Question 1–Private Funds in Election Administration–passed. Wisconsin’s constitution will be amended to ban private election funding. This referendum was typically favored by Republicans and opposed by Democrats and was brought to attention because of Mark Zuckerberg’s financial support of democratic-leaning election administrations.
Question 2, Only Elected Officials to Conduct Elections Amendment, another Republican-supported amendment, also passed. The referendum added an article to the state’s constitution, which states that only election officials approved by the state of Wisconsin can help in conducting elections.
