Beloit College’s soccer seasons are in full swing, with conference play opening this past weekend for both the men’s and women’s teams. Both teams are looking to make a push toward the top four spots in the conference to land a bid to the Midwest Conference Tournament after the regular season.
The women’s team is looking to build on a 5-9-5 season last year, where they secured the fourth seed in the Midwest Conference Tournament.
After losing seven players from last season, the team is looking to regroup quickly, and hopefully keep their steady form and make the conference tournament for a fourth straight year. After hiring former Mount Mary University coach, John Baillie, the team is looking forward to starting strong with their newly appointed coach.
Beloit, prior to conference play, held a record of 1-7-2. The single win of their pre-conference games was a 4-0 home win against Lakeland University.
The Bucs opened up their conference season against the Cornell College Rams over the weekend. The game started out hot for the Bucs.They were up 2-0 after the first three minutes of the game and cruised into halftime sustaining their two goal lead.
After an eventful, back-and-forth second half, the Bucs secured their first conference win of the season with a 4-1 over the Rams. During the course of this game, the Bucs saw goals from four different players, which is a great sign heading into conference play.
They will look for key contributions from their many returning upperclassmen, including their leading scorer, midfielder Megan Thompson’25, who has 7 goals in 11 games.
On the men’s side, their season started with a similar non-conference schedule before conference play. The Bucs played nine games before their conference opener.
They started the season with a 1-8 record in non-conference. Their singular win was also against Lakeland University, where they won, 2-1.
The men’s team also opened conference play against the Cornell College Rams over the weekend, but unfortunately, the game did not go as smoothly as the women’s game.
The Rams got off to a hot start, scoring two goals on the Bucs in the first half. The second half was more of the same, with two more goals for the Rams, as the game ended 4-0 in favor of Cornell.
The men’s team will face off against University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a road game this Wednesday. They will also host a home conference game against Monmouth College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The women’s team will host their first conference home game against the Monmouth College Fighting Scots at the Strong Stadium Complex at 1:30 p.m.
