Beloit College volleyball has been very busy, in the heat of their conference schedule and nearing the conclusion of their season. Through a rough patch over the last month, the team was able to find some recent success and is hoping to build on that for the remainder of the season.

Volleyball now sits with a 3-18 overall record, while going 0-5 so far on their conference schedule. The team has found a little more success in the single game non conference fixtures this season. One being a home game played a few weeks ago on October 8th.

The Bucs headed into the game with a single win under their belt. That win was picked up against their opponent that night, the Alverno College Inferno. In their first game against the Inferno, the Bucs gained a strong two set to zero lead.

However, after a roaring comeback from the Inferno, Beloit found itself in a fifth set, tied 2-2. The Bucs regained the momentum and secured their first win. With all that in their minds, they knew the home matchup would be a tight one and it surely was.

In opposite fashion, Alverno College got out to an early lead, taking the first set, 25-17. But, the Bucs didn’t back down from the ragging hot Inferno. They proceeded to take a close second set, 25-22, and an even closer third, 32-30, to take their first lead at two sets to one.

The Bucs were back and forth throughout the entirety of the fourth set. It was appearing to go either way. The Bucs never gave up and captured the winning set, 29-27, which seemed to be a theme of the game.

After a practice that Thursday, coach Lehua Enomoto mentioned how multiple spectators had praised her team and how they never put their heads down. She continued to praise the team for its efforts and perseverance.

Beloit was led by standout performances from seniors Camille Ledoux’25, who picked up 14 kills, and McKayla Simoa’25, who picked up a double-double with 13 kills and 21 digs.

The team then went five games without a win, including four conference matchups. But that came to an abrupt end when they faced Maranatha Baptist University, at home last Friday the 25th.

The Buccaneers made quick work of the Sabercats, picking up their first sweep of the year and a 3-0 win. The Bucs took the first 25-14, the second 25-22, and the third 25-13.

Simao led the team again with 10 kills and zero errors on only 18 attempts. Both sophomore middle blockers Kierra Rayne Hoover ’27 and Naomi Murphy ’27 each had seven kills. First year setter Selin Tufte ’28 led the team with 20 assists.

Beloit headed to Maranatha Baptist on October 29th for a 7 p.m. matchup. They will then host Senior Night on Friday, November 1st, against Lawrence University.
