On Saturday, April 19th, Beloit’s women’s lacrosse team played a hard fought game against the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and suffered a brutal 12-11 loss in the final seconds of the game.
Before the game, Beloit took a few minutes to recognize the six graduating seniors and their contributions to Beloit College Lacrosse. These were very talented players, and Beloit will surely be missing them in the seasons to come.
After recognizing the seniors, the game started, with MSOE opening the scoring within the first few minutes. Beloit responded quickly, in what would be a common theme throughout the match. At the end of the first quarter, MSOE led 3-2, but fans were still optimistic about the Bucs’ chances at winning. When asked about his thoughts on the game so far, Demir Kasapoglu’28 said that he felt “pretty good. I have faith in our offense.” When asked about his thoughts on the seniors’ performance, Demir said that he was sad to see them go, but that he had “high hopes for some of our younger players.”
In the second quarter, Beloit’s offense got fired up, with Maya DeGeorge’25 scoring 3 goals to tie the game 5-5. However, in the final minutes, MSOE scored to make the score 6-5.
Beloit’s biggest deficit was 11-8 in the third quarter, and our fighting Bucs refused to stay down. Crucial goals scored by Cassidy Felix’25, Johanna McNair’25, and Maya DeGeorge tied the score to 11-11, but it was unfortunately not enough, as MSOE took advantage of a man-up opportunity and scored in the last 30 seconds.
Despite the crushing loss, the home crowd was alive throughout the game, and it was a very good sight to see. Beloit’s last game is on Wednesday at Strong Stadium, where they will play Edgewood College.
When it comes to the Beloit college athletics we aren’t the best. Let’s be honest, we suck. What was demonstrated today may not have been the best lacrosse game but everyone cared to keep be on that field. The men’s lacrosse team had senior today against MSOE (Saturday 04/19). Though the score was putrid it was still a bittersweet game to watch.
I knew that emotions were flaring when Eric Seo of all people gave me a hug (I know right, big deal). Even the younger classmates on the field decided to give a speech after all our seniors were introduced. John Imbrale got into it, giving a speech about how MSOE was practicing while we were celebrating our seniors. I think that was the first time I’ve seen him that passionate about something before.
All the senior offensive players played today and luckily they scored. As Jordan Rice (Mr. Comfy) himself scored one along with Will Palmer (Stick doctor). Jordan you’re the first person to give me my first collegiate goal here at Beloit college, and well my last to this point. For some reason we may not see each other outside of class or lax field. I always feel like you’re on this team and side for good. Will, I see you around, and well you definitely helped me out early on in my career here as well. Making me understand lax to a whole new light. And yes, I will try to shoot overhand (let’s be real, no I won’t). Liam Walker did also have a hat trick and well that’s great but it’s about the seniors today. Sorry Liam. Anywho, they weren’t all the seniors
Zachary Sochacki was another kid who’s on defense that is a senior. Although he didn’t play today, Zach has been with this team longer than anyone through a pain staking herniated disc in his back my freshman year to now where of course his flexibility bites him in the butt all to this day. Carter McEachran has always participated, and he’s played better each year in my opinion and really worked on his craft. In terms of being on this team, I can confidently say that he may be the nicest guy on the team by far. Thank you Carter for being an overwhelming positive presence on this team.
Lastly Eric, you’ve been our goalie for what seems like through thick and thin, and I am glad that I got to know you through these past three years. I know the toughness that you’ve been putting on in your play. Year after year suffering brutal injuries, but despite that still being so good at lacrosse. I just want to say that you’ve helped me understand a lot of what I need not to do better just on the field, but off of it as well. So I thank you for all that you’ve done for me, but everyone as well. Even though you’re too smart for me sometimes.
Congratulations Seniors on your senior day. Even though it wasn’t a great game and close, I just want to say thank you.
