The trailer for season two of “Percy Jackson” was released on Nov. 6 in preparation for the two-episode premiere on Dec. 10.
This has been a long awaited production after the movies made in the early 2010s modeled after the first two books left fans disappointed. “The Lightning Thief” gained an adaptation in 2010, although not a popular one. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 48% on the Tomatometer, which represents the collective opinion of industry critics, and a 53% on the Popcornmeter, which represents the views of the audience at large. Fans were not pleased with the changes made to the movie, such adding six years to the characters’ ages and alterations to the plot.
In comparison, season one of the show has a 91% on the Tomatometer, and a 79% on the Popcornmeter. The TV show was widely hailed by book fans as a good adaptation, and although no media can go without complaints, the show’s success was partly attributed to author Rick Riordan’s influence on set.
Movie critics also complain that the CGI is underdeveloped, along with comparing it to director Chris Columbus’ other films, namely the Harry Potter series. Rotten Tomatoes critic Lou Luminick from the New York Post gave the film a 2/4. “The film toggles between high camp and deadly earnestness, all the while threatening to drown in an ocean of not-so-special effects,” Luminick wrote.
Although Disney did not release a season one trailer, the teaser they posted over two years ago has only amassed 10 million views. Rotten Tomatoes did post a trailer, but it only has 167 thousand views after the past two years. Variety reported that within the first six days of season one’s release, it had 13.3 million viewers.
Those fans have been waiting for the release of season two, and now the trailer has garnered 15 million views in only eight days. The interest is still there; even though the first season was released in 2023, fans have been patiently waiting with anticipation.
Fans familiar with the plotline will find comfort in the clips included in the trailer, such as the chariot races, the Grey sisters, and Luke poisoning Thalia. They can also see a sneak peek of other memorable moments, preparing them for all of their favorite scenes. Those hearing Percy’s storyline for the first time will now realize the growing threat that Camp Half-Blood is under, and how far Luke is willing to go to get revenge on the gods.
The season two trailer is a well-done focus of the most important moments in Sea of Monsters, and provides an insight for old and new fans alike into the horrors and connections that will be brought in each episode.
No matter how long you’ve been a fan of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, season two is sure to bring excitement. Hold onto your swords as they travel to the Sea of Monsters to save camp from Kronos and his army.
