Last Tuesday night, Beloit College women’s basketball was set up against Grinnell College in their second game of the season.

The Buccaneers started off strong, holding the lead for most of the first quarter, with significant offensive efforts made by Julia Kennedy’28, who contributed a third of Beloit’s points in the first quarter. Grinnell managed to gain a lead in the last few minutes, giving themselves a six point lead (22-16) heading into the second quarter.

The Bucs became stagnant offensively in the second, but major defensive contributions by Hailey Johnson’26 and Kaitlyn Davis’27 helped the Bucs continue their fight. In the third quarter, Sophia Corley’29 and Kennedy’s points pushed the Bucs offensively, with Corley making multiple layups and Kennedy with multiple threes. However, the Buccaneers still headed into their final quarter with a score 30-49.

Throughout the fourth quarter, many players stepped up offensively and defensively, with Davis scoring a few points of her own, as well as Brooke Foster’29. Johnson also continued on both ends of the court, earning 3 blocks and Bailey Darneal’27 added a few points as well, ending the game with 10 points.

Kennedy finished the game with 5 completed 3’s, and tied her career high with 19 points. Johnson and Davis both ended with 10 rebounds, and 9 points came from the bench.

Next, Beloit women’s basketball takes the court on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m., immediately following the men’s basketball game. Their last home game and senior night is Wednesday, Feb. 18. Show up and support their seniors during their last game at home.
