The Beloit Urban Garden and the Outdoor Environmental Club convened at the Marca Bristo Keep Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, to share various herbal- and fruit-flavored teas and introduce themselves for the upcoming year.
OEC and BUG strive to create outdoor spaces for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy nature, find community among their peers, and educate students about the environment. OEC focuses on encouraging appreciation and understanding of nature, and BUG partners with Bon Appetit to provide Hamilton’s with freshly grown produce from the urban garden, including lettuce, tomatoes and other goods.
The tea party was aimed primarily towards the incoming freshman class, hoping to make a good first impression for the environmental side of campus and to welcome potential new members for each club. “I was blown away by the amount of people who attended,” said Oliver Idzikowski’28, commenting on the event’s turnout. “Their enthusiasm was inspiring.”
BUG will soon be having elections for the Bosun, Emissary, and Steward of the Wildflower Gardens, and will also have regular meetings throughout the week. Additionally, OEC plans to host hiking events and film screenings throughout the semester in collaboration with other clubs, while also focusing on cultivating the greenery around the Science Center. Work days will also be held to maintain these growing parts of the campus.
