Haikus on the Season

By

Vivian Kopka

What to wear

Sweating through a long-

Sleeved shirt, not accounting for

The sun. Chilly-hot.

Working

Round Table office

Collective headaches holler,

Cold night slipped away

What’s that smell

Stinky rock river,

Quiet down now, let your flow

Cease, go to silence

yowch!

Criss-cross-applesauce

On the brink of going numb

Blood silence the stream

Cigarette clarity

bird, dead at the grate

Pesticides, clear glass window

Things rise, all things fall

All day

Coffee brews in a

sweaty room where I work, I

Will not see the sun.
