I drank from the psych lounge water,
“DO NOT DRINK” atop the green,
I sipped before the sign went up on the cooler
From color I thought was a glare from a desktop screen
My sanctuary of hydration cooled us all
On the hottest and loudest days
In my hydrangea-speckled water bottle
While the tense air around me sways
But then it stood with tones of green
Indications of algae growth
And though it hasn’t yet crumbled
Something here is next to go
So when that botox-bolstered billionaire takes control of this town
And the amalgamation of machinations digs its monstrous roots in the ground
And not a poor bastard here can have solid roof or clean drink
Dirt and algae and misery will pool in some shallow sink
Today the water is clear and clean
And when the algae comes next time
I wonder if we’ll have the kindness, will, and competence
To still hang the “DO NOT DRINK” sign
