Women’s Soccer Home Opener Win

The Beloit College Women’s Soccer team won their home opener on Sunday 3-0 over the Benedictine University Eagles.

The Bucs played an exceptional game on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Junior Megan Thompson started the action for Beloit in the 33rd minute with a header goal. In the second half, Senior Abigail Membrino took over scoring two goals of her own in the 68th and 75th minutes. 

Defensively, the Bucs were stout. They only surrendered six shots on goal the entire game. Beloit had two goalkeepers play in the match. Senior Briana Artaega played the majority of the game in goal playing almost 75 minutes and racking up six saves. Junior Maya Betzler played the other 15 minutes.

The Bucs have a new tradition this year of giving out two big letter ‘B’s’ to players after every game. Earning the ‘B’ is a big honor that is determined by who shows the most grit and toughness during the game. Each winner passes it on to another player popcorn style. The two winners in this game were juniors Hannah Sempsrott and Maya Degeorge. 

“It truly is an honor to win this award. I’m very proud of the way we played today and could not have gotten it without my teammates” Hannah Sempsrott said. “Most importantly we got the win today. That’s what matters to me the most. I hate losing.”

Beloit College soccer superfan Miles Souza ‘25 attends every game he can go to. He shared his thoughts on the team’s performance and outlook for the season.

“I was excited by the result on the field today. The offense in this game shows promise for the rest of the year” Miles Souza said. “I can’t wait for conference play to start. I really think they can be the team to beat this year in the Midwest Conference.”

The Bucs will open up conference play against Cornell at home September 23rd.
